Mobile First

Here at Compute we have been pushing Mobile Friendly, Responsive Websites since long before it was required to rank better. This was to give your visitors the best user experience on every device. Now Google is actively testing a Mobile First Index, which means it will look at the mobile version of your website first for ranking signals, then secondly look at the desktop version if no mobile version is found.

“To make our results more useful, we’ve begun experiments to make our index mobile-first. Although our search index will continue to be a single index of websites and apps, our algorithms will eventually primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from that site, to understand structured data, and to show snippets from those pages in our results. Of course, while our index will be built from mobile documents, we’re going to continue to build a great search experience for all users, whether they come from mobile or desktop devices.”

So if your Website is not Mobile Friendly, it needs to be very, very soon!

Google AMP

AMP or Accelerated Mobile Pages is a project supported by Google. It’s main purpose is to help mobile users access content faster by improving load time and user experience. In Google’s words it is to “Fast the mobile user experience”. If you have a WordPress site it is a pretty straight forward procedure to implement AMP on your site for all your Blog Posts, in turn helping your users Mobile Experience and Search

Voice Search

Even though Voice Search has been around a while the advances in technologies like Siri, Alexa, Cortana and newer tech like Google Home, Kuri and Amazon Echo have made voice search more important than ever.

In years gone by people used to ask search engines questions, these are called long tail queries, but search queries got shorter and shorter down to a word or two . But with the rise of voice search long tail queries are once again important.

Chances are your content will be targeting the shorter search queries, for example;

  • UK Elections

But for voice search people would ask the device a question, like a long tail query like;

  • When is the next UK Election?
  • UK Election results from 2016

As this is how humans speak and how people will use voice search.

This year i already have tickets to attend two of the UK’s best search and SEO Conferences;

  • Brighton SEO in April, which i have been attending twice a year for the last 4 years.
  • Search Leeds in June, which just started last year.



Going to these events allows me to learn new information and techniques for my daily work from some of the best SEO and Search people in the world.
