What is Search engine optimisation?

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.

Search Engine Facts

People rarely look beyond the 1st page of results, all though some evidence shows that is changing and people may click through the first 3 to 4 pages, but just looking at the top result on each page.

Google is by far the most used search engine on the internet, with an estimated 3.5 Billion searches per day.

Internet users are more likely to use the organic listing instead of the Pay Per Click ones, which are located on the right hand side and sometimes at the very top. These normally have a small Ads heading, and may have a different coloured background.

Internet/Website advertising costs a fraction of the costs of Newspaper/Magazine Advertising
