Looking ahead to the next year

What are your business plans for the next year?

The things i will be looking ahead for are those things that will help my clients websites, and in turn help the businesses grow.

Here are a few things to consider for the  year ahead.

1. Ever changing Google searches

SEO_cumbria_smallWe have see lots of changes in Google’s algorithm in the last 12 months, 15 noteworthy changes, so we expect more in the next 12 months. One thing Google clamped down on was spammy links. By this i mean sites that had lots of links that were of very little or no relevance to the sites content.
We also saw the devaluation of “exact match domain” names, this removes any unfair advantage of having a domain name which precisely matches a generic search term you are trying to rank for. An example of this would be wanting to rank for the term chocolate brownies Cumbria and having a domain name www.chocolatebrowniescumbria.co.uk

2. Website optimisation for tablets and mobile devices.

responsive-web-design-on-mobileWith the continuing rise of tablet and smart phone ownership it makes perfect sense to optimise your website for mobile devices.
Studies have shown that if a visitor finds your website on a mobile device and the site is not optimised for the device they will abandon viewing your site and search again!

Now could be the time to get ready for mobile devices. Read more about mobile optimisation and responsive sites HERE

3. Get rid of flash

People browsing the internet on iPad’s and iPhone’s are only seeing half of your content, if you still have flash elements or content on some pages. Its surprising how often i have stumbled upon a site to find i can only access part of the content as the rest of the page requires FLASH!

4. Blog, blog and then blog some-more

It’s a known fact that companies that blog on their websites have 55% more visitors!
But when blogging don’t just sell, sell, sell. There’s nothing wrong with a Call to Action, but don’t just make it about selling. Be informative about your industry, write How To Guides and share content that is interesting.

Well as 2013 draws to a close, i wish you all a Happy New Year.
